Teaching Philosophy
The preschool’s teaching philosophy is centered on learning through play. Play offers the opportunity to experience diversity, face challenges, and develop self-esteem and life skills.
Outdoor play forms a large component of our program, and the preschool has a fantastic, stimulating outdoor playground that includes jungle equipment, a Balinese style hut, dry creek river bed and a vegetable garden for the children to enjoy.

Mandarin Program
Legend Park Preschool is participating in the Victorian Department of Education and Training’s Early Childhood Language Program.
It is a four-year program overseen by the Department of Education and Training and run by kindergartens.
Our Kindergarten has been selected to deliver a Mandarin language program to be delivered each week for a three-hour block by a qualified language teacher.
Location
The school is situated close to nature, right next to the Bushy Park nature reserve. Children can watch cows wander the surrounding fields while water birds reside in the nearby bird hide.
Children take part in walking excursions to the surrounding area and invited guests enthrall children’s attention and feed their imagination.
Children drop off and pick up is stress free thanks to ample street parking on King Arthur Drive.

Legend Park Preschool is managed under the Victorian Department of Education and Trainings Early Years Management Policy Framework by YMCA Early Years Management.
The YMCA has been working in local communities across Australia since 1851 providing children’s services, recreation, camping, youth services and community initiatives, events, training and accommodation. YMCA Early Years Management (YEYM) currently administers 85 kindergartens and early years services across regional and metropolitan areas of Victoria. The Early Years Management team pride themselves on offering a dedicated, personal approach to committees, teaching staff and families. The YMCA of Ballarat Inc is a Not-for-Profit organisation.
YMCA Ballarat is the approved service provider Legend Park Preschool and is responsible for:
- Ensuring compliance with the national law and regulations
- Hiring, managing and developing appropriately qualified staff
- Ensuring service viability and acquiring funding
- Ensuring delivery of a high quality education programme, aligned with the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework.
